Grgich Hills Cellars was founded in 1977 by winemaker Miljenko Grgich—formerly of Chateau Montelana, and notable as the creator of the Chateau’s famous 1973 Chardonnay which came in first at the 1976 Paris Tasting—and coffee-maker Austin Hills. The winery offers primarily estate-bottled varietal wines, including a Zinfandel from the Alexander Valley, a Late Harvest Johannisberg Riesling, and Chardonnay, Fumé Blanc, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. Grgich Hills wines are aged in French oak. Tasting and sales daily, 9.30am-4.30pm; tours by appointment. Tasting fee.
